Nancy's Recovery

August 28th

The last of Nancy's stitches were removed today from her side. The scar from her chest wound is improving remarkably well and is nearly unnoticable (these stiches were removed a week ago). Nancy has been allowed to swim for a few days and her strength for walking and light exercise is improving quickly.

August 14th

Nancy was released from the hospital today. She has several stiches remaining in her chest from the machete puncture, which will come out in a week, as well as several stiches in her side from the lung drain tube, which will come out in two weeks. Her strength is good and she is glad to be out of the hospital.

August 13th

Nancy was allowed to briefly leave the hospital today on an outing, a good sign that her lung condition is improving rapidly. Nancy and family were driven by Asistur to Rio Dulce to view Dan's body at a funeral home. You can read about the ceremony in Family Updates From Guatemala. Afterwards Nancy was energetic enough to take her family on a short 'tour' of Rio Dulce including their favorite place to eat and to her sailboat. The sailboat is still being held by police so she couldn't go aboard. Nancy's strength and energy were strong for the outing. Tonight she will sleep in the hospital for her last night.

NANCY AND HER CHILDREN ARE REUNITED! Daniel and Jessica, Nancy's children, as well as Jessica's husband, Brian, arrived at the hospital in Morales from Guatemala City by police caravan. They have left wonderful details of there plans and stories shared with nancy.

Adam and I (Jason) dropped Renee, Daniel's partner, off at the airport tonight. On her way to meet the family in Guatemala she must spend a day in Seattle getting a emergency passport, then she'll be off to Guatemala the following day. We taught her important Spanish words and phrases on the way in to the airport and as she stood in line to check in for her flight we informed her of the do's and don'ts while in Guatemala.

Alejandro, a family cousin, will meet Renee up at the airport on the 14th and together they will reunite with Nancy, Daniel, Jessica and Brian. .

August 11th

Daniel, Jessica, and Brian have arrived in Guatemala. Due to volcanic eruptions in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska our flight was delayed 8 hours in Anchorage. We will be spending the night in Guatemala City because we were advised not to travel at night on the highways. The U.S. embassy met us at the airport and will caravan with us to meet Nancy tomorrow. The Guatemalan Tourist Assistance Agency (Asistur) has been a great help to us by picking us up at the airport, providing us a hotel in Guatemala City, and they plan to transport us to Morales tomorrow.

We've shed many good tears on the flight down together. We really appreciate all of the support everyone has given us. Nancy is getting a lot of support from local friends at the hospital. Nancy's voice sounds very strong on the telephone and the doctors say that her collapsed lung is improving quickly. Tomorrow we will be with her.

Alejandro, a third cousin of Daniel and Jessica, will be joining Nancy and family on August 14 for support with the language barriers and loving support. Ale has spent the several last years as a spiritual teacher and trauma healer. Additionally, Ale is fluent in Spanish and English and has worked as an interpreter, so he will be very helpful to Nancy.

three local churches have held special prayer meetings for the Dryden family and Nancy's recovery. in Mexico a spiritual community gather's to perform a circle of light ceremony along with particular Tibetan prayers. 100 + people have written loving letters, called to offer unconditional assistance and everywhere candles are being lit prayers and loving intentions are being sent towards the Dryden family.

Jessica , Daniel and Brian were scheduled to arrive in Guatemala this morning. and will be with her soon.

because of the love and prayers, Nancy health is really good, she is having friends visit her in the hospital.

nancy is in a private hospital in eastern Guatemala with a punctured lung. There is a drain tube in her lung that drains foreign fluids. If this drain functions in unison with her body she will not have to undergo a dangerous surgery. When we first talked with her the doctor was saying that if the drain didn't function properly within the next eight hours they would have to do the surgery. last we heard the drain was working properly and there was no immediate need for surgery.

she was so loving and positive on the phone, surely the love and prayers that are being sent her way along with the anticipation of the reunion with her children , is causing the necessary healing.
